ABOUT ME
David was born in Scotland in 1966. His father was a movie fan, so he spent a lot of his childood watching US blockbusters in the cinema. When the VHS market exploded, he also became a fan of US indie personal and exploitation genre films.
He moved to London in his twenties to study acting. He took part-time classes at the Lee Strasberg Studio, but he gained most of his experence from working on student films, and micro budget feature films.
He also began to write screenplays, then decided to make his own feature film. He wrote a comedy caper movie that was set in Scotland, LA, and Las Vegas called "Pasty Faces" He made a promo trailer in the US, then created a business plan to take to the industry.
The film was financed by the executive producer of "Lock Stock" and "Snatch". The film got a theatrical, TV, DVD deal, and led to other offers. David "I was not happy with my first film because it was made by a committee"
David spent the next few years writing better screenplays and trying to raise private finance to control his projects. He finally secured £500,000 for "SCREEN", but the global financial collapse struck. This crippled his investors just weeks before the shoot in Los Angeles
He pulled a plan to together to make a micrro budget movie. Mission X. He financed the film from his day job, and a co-worker also invested in the film. The film was shot on weekends over a year.
Distributors, sales agents, and the Cineworld multiplex chain responded positively to the film. He also got positive feedback from people all over the world on the web. Because of this, he has decided to make a bigger remake to launch it to a global market.
To keep control, the film will be financed from product placements deals, private, crowd sourcing, sales from the previous film, and a lot of incredible deals. He aims to shoot the film in March 2011
David "My ambition is simply to make great movies. Industry movies, but also smaller experimental direct to market movies I own. I could never make films purely because of the money.
I don't need to be mega rich or famous, but I do need to create work that pushes the envelope, really challenges, scares me. I am lucky be in a time where I can spend the last thirty years of my life making the movies that I want to make"
"However, shooting a film all over the world in a short period of time was a baptism by fire. It was my film school, but in the process, I lost the passion for making films for a few years.
